This cemetery contains 712 Confederate headstones, but it is estimated that between 600 and 1,000 Confederate Soldiers are buried here.

Work began on the Cemetery in 1872. In 1934 the Ladies Memorial Association erected the stone archway and dedicated the granite monument to the Unknown Soldiers killed in the Battle of Jonesboro (Aug. 31 - Sept. 1, 1864). The cemetery was completed in 1991 and rededicated as the Patrick R. Cleburne Confederate Cemetery.

A service is held here every Confederate Memorial Day.
