In 1991 a fossil was discovered in the Milford Gypsum Mine of a large male mastodon (~22yrs old at time of death).
Today a large statue stands at the exit to Stewiacke to mark the fossil discovery and the fact that this location is exactly halfway between the North Pole and the Equator.
Mastodon Ridge is accessible year-round and offers entertainment for children, food services, tourism information, and now a WAYMARK!
To log this waymark you must:
1.take a picture of your group (or GPS) at the coordinates listed above making sure the sign is in the background.
2.At the time of your visit you must state whether the weather was more like a "North Pole" day or an "Equator" day. Any other photos or comments will also be accepted as supplement.
