A plaque reads "The building was purchased by public subscription. The city added to the generous gift of Andrew Carnegie to complete the financing of the building. The building was first occupied November 11, 1908." The Colton Carnegie Library was designed by Franklin P. Burnham who also designed the Georgia State Capitol. It is now used as the Colton Area History Museum and was listed on the National Register of Historic Properties in 1988.
