Started in 1884 by the Cincinnati Horticulturist Society. The society looked to beautiful park like cemeteries for inspiration. THe first burial occurred Sept. 1845. In 1855, Adolph Strauch, a famous lanscape architect, was hired to renovate the grounds. He added lakes, ponds, bridges, various trees and plants. In 1987, the name was officially changed to Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum to reflect the variety of landscape plants.
