In addition to providing mail service to the communtity of Winona, theis building has an interesting plaque adorning the exterior wall just to the left of the entrance.
The text on the plaque, erected by the Winona Women's Institute, reads:
Winona Settlement: From 1831 to 1867, this post office was known as Ontario. When Canada West (popularly called Upper Canada) entered Confederation in 1867, it adopted the name Ontario for its own. Consequently the postal authorities renamed this settlement Winona, a term of probable Indian derivation.
