St. Canice's Cathedral in Kilkenny is a terrific example of an Irish cathedral. Despite being damaged by Cromwell in the seventeenth century, it's in great shape and definitely worth a visit!

Located in scenic Kilkenny, St. Canice's is the second oldest cathedral in all of Ireland. The site has been a place of worship since the 6th century A.D. Built in the Early Gothic style, the building has lovingly tended, and many of its features have been restored to near-original condition and appearance. Outside the cathedral is an impressive 9th century round tower. Be prepared to climb six huge "ladders" to make your ascent. Once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with a fantastic view of the city, with clear sightlines of Kilkenny Castle and the Black Abbey, to name two landmarks. It's a great, amazing place. When in Kilkenny, you really should make you way to St. Canice's Cathedral.
Admission for adults is currently 4€. Please note that the cathedral is closed to visitors during church services.
