Photo of Renton Public Library

The Renton Public Library was built over the Cedar River, ostensibly because the city had no land it could dedicate to the project.  If you come at the right time of year, the fall is a good choice, you can watch the salmon run from the entrance to the library.

Unlike most of the libraries in King County, the Renton Public Library has opted to not become part of the King County Library System (KCLS).  So, who can get a library card for the Renton Public Library?

"Funding for the City of Renton libraries comes from tax payers within the city's boundaries. As a result, residents of Renton are automatically eligible for a library card. In addition, thanks to a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the King County Library System, non-Renton residents who reside within King County but outside the Seattle and Enumclaw City Limits are eligible to obtain a City of Renton library card. The City of Renton libraries and the Seattle and Enumclaw Libraries do not have reciprocal agreements at this time."
