Coordinates are for the entrance located off 4th Ave. Go through the revolving door and take the elevator to the 5th floor. When you exit the elevator head to your right, go around the corner and then look over to your left to find the screens. They are located above the reference desk. If you take the escalator up, they are a little to your left but straight ahead when you get off the escalator.
This piece was designed by George Legrady and was installed in 2004. It consists of 6 large LCD screens, which are arranged in a line. There are four different sets of statistics that are rotated through on the screens. They contain information about which books have been checked out and display that information from how many books have been checked out today in total to principal words arranged by Dewey Decimal number from books that were checked out today. The screens update regularly and rotate between all four. It is fascinating to stand and watch the information scroll by.
My photos didn't turn out the best, related to the type of work and the natural light that was present at that time of day that I was there. Hopefully someone else can get some better ones!
Parking is available on the street or in nearby garages. There is a garage located under the library off of Spring Street. Parking is free for the first 20 minutes in the garage. There are daily tours offered of the library that highlight many different features and designs.
