The nearby plaque states (in part):
The Knight with lance on horseback incorporates the spirit of the Pegasus and exemplifies the tradition of the University of Central Florida. The speed, agility, and partnership of the Knight and horse reflect the ideal of team-play competition.
The Friesian horse was bred for combat and competition. Its immense size, power, speed, and intelligence made it a perfect mount for the armor-clad Knight. Only the most courageous, strong and elite Knights used the jousting lance. UCF embraces the spirit of the charging Knight.
The cast bronze statue was conceived by Robert J. Holmes, Jr. and designed by award-winning artist Don Reynolds of Sanford, Florida.
