To access this waterfall, you must park at Forks of the Credit Provincial Park (there is a fee) and hike approximately 1 km along the Bruce Trail. While the village of Cataract is much closer, parking is not permitted on the village streets.
Churches Falls is also referred to as Cataract Falls. It is the point where the Credit River descends over the Niagara Escarpment. It is an impressive drop.
There is no trail to the bottom and it is a steep climb to get there. The best way to get to the bottom is to follow along the railway and descend from there. Note that crossing onto the railway itself is trespassing so not recommended.
The view of the Falls has been diminished with the concrete retaining wall built to protect the railway. You will also find at the top of the Falls the remains of one of the oldest power plants in Canada. This power plant was destroyed by flooding not once, but twice! The ruins are fenced off from public access.
This is a particularly good to hike in Autumn.
