Mongomery Ferry was the only means of crossing the Snake River between Starr's Ferry and American Falls, an 80 mile distance! It was also the one connection of the two railroad stations in Utah and Idaho.

Near this spot, a ferry was established in 1888 by George Mongomery and Andrew Smith. Charges were fifty cents for man and horse, seventy five cents for team and wagon. Only means of crossing Snake River between Starr's Ferry and American Falls, a distance of 80 miles, and the one connection of the two railroad stations at Kelton, Utah and Minidoka Idaho. Operation continued for 33 years until the bridge was built.
