Between a U.S. Flag and POW-MIA Flag stands a solid rock with two metal tablets fused to its surface in dedication.

The first tablet reads like poetry:
    Old Glory
I am the Star Spangled Banner .....
Conceived in 1777 out of the love
America bore for liberty and honor.

I am the memorial of countless heroes who
Shed their blood to preserve this
    Sacred heritage.

I have inspired generations of gallant men
    who fought against tyranny.

I am the spirit of Valley Forge.....
    Of sacrifice..... Of courage.

I have guarded every rampart where freedom
    Defended its glorious cause.....

    Tripoli...Belleau Wood...Argonne Forest
    ...Omaha Beach...Anzio...Bastogne
    ...Guadalcanal...Coral Sea...
    Leyte Gulf...Iwo Jima...Korea...
    Viet Nam

I fly wherever Americans gave their lives to
    Preserve the sanctity of life.

My home is in the hearts of all who feel a
Thrill of pride when they salute me
    And what I symbolize-

    God · Country · Freedom · Valor

This tablet ends with the seals of the five branches of the United States Military.

The second tablet is ornately designed and reads the following rhyme:
    On fame's eternal camping ground
    Their silent tents are spread
And glory guards with solemn round
    The Bivouac of the dead.

Description of Memorial:
The winding paths of Venice Memorial Gardens keeps the discretion of each landscaped section from the main view of the entrance. A visitor comes upon the memorial suddenly and its bold presence attracts the eye. As a visitor approaches to read the text on the tablets, headstones for veterans from the five U.S. Military branches who had participated in various military actions and wars over the span of time become prevalent and significant. A gated tomb with a large number of plats for current and future cemetery occupants is set directly in the background of this memorial. This memorial's foreground presence creates a parallel to how the U.S. Military is a foreground presence protecting the country.
