This sign is located at the Fish Lake Viewpoint off Ore Hwy 126.

Marker Name: History Is
Marker Text: Fish Lake is a place of fire and ice. You stand on a crust of both geology and history, a discrete moment in the story of this landscape. Pause a moment and contemplate the journey from the past to the future.
Here the landscape sounds the major theme, although humans have played more than a minor role. Native peoples may have witnessed the creation of the lake. They traveled a foot path over this pass which became the route of the commercial wagon road and was later replaced by the modern highway that brought you here.
At Fish Lake History is not was. History is. As you move through this landscape, respect the evidence that remains of the history that preceded us. Reflect on the evidence of your own time here. Your actions leave traces for the visitor tomorrow, as well as the traveler in some distant future.
