The Pontiac Silverdome was completed to house for the Detroit Lions in 1975. Since then it has hosted many losing seasons with the Lions, a Pope, World Cup Soccer, a Super Bowl, and numerous other events. But since the Lions moved back to the new Ford Field in Detroit in 2001, the Silverdome has been struggling to find a new purpose. Owned by the financially strapped city of Pontiac, the city council tried to utilize the 127 acre site as a drive-in theater, but after a few more losing seasons (which seems traditional at this location) the city has resolved to sell the site.
