James K. Polk 1795-1849
U.S. President, 1845-49. Born nearby in house no longer standing. Land & reconstructed buildings now State Historic Site.

Further information is that he was the 11th President and came from humble surroundings. He was the oldest of Samuel and Jane Polk's ten children. Their farm was approximately 250 acres.
