This monolithic but small space with a cantilevered redwood clad terrace on a red brick pedestal was originally built for a Lockheed engineer and his growing family. The house is comprised of only two bedrooms and a wrap around terrace.

With an an interior space of only 900 square feet when the original owners outgrew the house they had a larger house built nearby by another architect complete with an enlarged copy of the Sturges living room.

According to Heinz, the design was originally developed as the first design for the Malcom Willey house (visit link) in Minneapolis.

The house leaked so badly following completion that Sturges designed and installed a series of rain funnels and a later owner worked with former Wright apprentice John Lautner to install a metal flashing system.

It is reminiscent of the Feldman house (visit link) in Berkeley, the Kundert Medical Clinic (visit link) in San Luis Obispo, and the Walter River Pavilion (Cedar Rock) in Iowa.

The current and longtime owner is Jack Larson, TV's Jimmy Olson of The Adventures of Superman fame.
