In 1937, Paramahansa Yogananda, author of "Autobiography of a Yogi," founded the Self-Realization Fellowship center in Encinitas, San Diego County, California, on a 100-foot cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and lived there at various times during his life. The center is still operating, and the beautiful grounds and gardens are often open to the public; spiritual retreats and other events also take place there.
It just so happens that the beach just beneath this spiritual center is a great place for surfing, and surfers gave the location the nickname "Swami's Beach" because of the holy man's proximity. The beach is now a city park, and is mentioned in the catalog of surfing locales in the Beach Boys' song "Surfin' USA."
The coordinates are at the top of the stairs leading down from the parking lot to the beach.
