Marker Text: The earth below this watershed acts like a giant sponge! Eons of different textured lava capture, store and release rain and snow melt. Local springs bubble consistently through winter, spring, summer and fall. The headwaters of the McKenzie varies from 34-39 degrees Fahrenheit.
Traveling below ground, through bands of porous rock, gravity pulls water towards the valley floor. When water reaches an impenetrable layer, it moves along it until the flow reaches a permeable place, or is released from the dark hold of the earth as a spring.
