This sign is located at a small viewpoint along the Cascade Lakes Hwy at Sparks Lake.

Marker Text: Elevation 5428
Sparks Lake is named for ‘Lice’ Sparks pioneer stockman of central Oregon. It covers approximately 250 acres. Its maximum depth is 8 feet. The lake has no surface outlets. On August 31, 1855. A Pacific Railroad Survey party led by Lts. R.L. Williamson and Phil Sheridan with Dr. J.S. Newberry seeking a pass through the mountains passed near this spot.
