This sign is located at the Ray Atkeson Memorial near the boat launch at Sparks Lake.
Marker Name: Scenic Geological Wonderland
Marker Text: The Sparks Lake area was created thousands of years ago by powerful forces of the earth. Volcanoes and glaciers built and carved the different land forms you see around you. Explore the rock formations, canyons, and rugged cliffs which make up Sparks Lake’s character. Notice how forests of pine, fir, hemlock and cedar add contrasting color and soften the landscape. These trees and bushes are stunted from the harsh and unforgiving elements of snow, wind, and ice. The inspiration of Ray Atkeson’s photography can teach us to become better observers as we explore the beauty of the natural world around us.
