These shipwrecks ran aground during a winter storm. Three are accessible by foot on the beach. I recommend going during low tide to be able to see the wrecks better. It's a little over a half mile walk from the parking lot. Bring along a small fishing net & bucket for the kids to catch crabs, starfish, and small minnows.
**8/13/12 Update according to a local source: These ships did not run aground during the storm. They were destroyed during a storm and then the town of Riverhead purchased them and placed them here to create an artificial jetty.

See the note below regarding the history of these shipwrecks. Thank you Suzannemg for the information!
Date of Shipwreck: ~1930s
Type of Boat: Barge
Military or Civilian: Civilian
Cause of Shipwreck: Winter storm
Accessibility: This is a Town of Riverhead park so accessible parking is limited. My recommendation is to go late in the day during the summer (when they are not charging) or in the Spring and Fall.
