The cabin was built by Fidelis & Euphrosine Schwendemann on their farm in St. Peters in the mid-nineteenth century. The farm was located just east of the current post office in St. Peters and was located south of Mexico Road. Fidelis & Euphrosine Schwendemann were from Baden Germany and married in 1835 in St. Charles. As the Schwendemann family grew additions were made to the home and the frame additions completely surrounded log cabin within. When the frame house was being torn down the log cabin was found hidden inside. To preserve the log cabin it was moved to its current location several years ago.
