The Cross Plains Public Library is a member of the Big Country Library System. The Library has overflowed the original building, and is currently planning to expand the children's collection into recently acquired space to the north of the original building. A vacant lot adjacent to the building has been developed into a park for library patrons.
The library features many programs, including Summer Reading Program and Learn-About Programs for kids; a Meet The Author series and an Oral History project (CDs are stored at the library).
Other events include book sales featuring books by local authors such as Robert E. Howard.
The Library's collection includes over two dozen Robert E. Howard manuscripts.
