The county seat of Marion is Palmyra. This waymark is to the county courthouse located in Palmyra.
Palmyra has a very interesting history. From a European settlement point of view alone, the area was claimed by the English, French, Spanish and finally America. Although our written history surrounds European history, evidence supports Native American settlement in the area for a considerable amount of time prior to European settlement.
The event that sets Palmyra, MO appart, and might otherwise make the community seem ordinary if not for this event is the Palmyra Massacre during a series of heated American Civil War engagement in the area during 1862.
