It's hard to argue with the "largest" claim, since this outdoor display is roughly 80 feet tall.

These chimes have been a part of Fashion Island since the early years of the shopping center. Although the building they're attached to has changed names over the years (it's currently a Macy's store), the chimes haven't moved. The sound produced by these metal tubes is actually somewhat muted, as they're encased in large bell-shaped domes. Since this location is literally at the corner of the center, it's a safe bet most shoppers don't give the chimes a second look, but they should!
The chimes were created by artist Tom Van Sant.
Type of documentation of superlative status: This superlative was documented in the Guinness Book of World Records. Also, a plaque at the base reads, "The World's Largest Wind Chimes, September 11, 1967."
