This building is named for Samuel Austin, a native of England who came to the United States in 1872. He and his family settled in the northeast Ohio village of Willoughby. Austin founded the Austin Company in 1881 and began designing and building commercial buildings and factories. He pioneered the Austin Method where one company is responsible for the design, engineering, and construction of a building or complex. His companies notable achievements included General Electric's Nela Park facility, the Curtis Aircraft plant in Buffalo, and the design of porcelain enamel panels which became a staple of gas station construction across the United States. This building which carries his name now hosts a popular restaurant in a quiet northeast Ohio town.
