The CSUMB website defines a
Ropes Course in this way:
It is a series of obstacles constructed of various types of
materials to provide challenges to individuals or groups. Participants
work their way up through low course elements (up to three feet off the
ground), then progress on to high course elements (20-85 feet in the air).
Through the use of team support systems and state of the art rock climbing
equipment, the course provides a controlled situation where actual risk is
practically nonexistent. The perception of risk, however, catalyzes
individuals and groups to expand their comfort zones, solve problems
effectively, and overcome natural fears.

This Course is made up of both
Low Element Team Building section as well as the familiar High Element
Course:
Low Element Course Team Building
Ever been put through the hoops? Forced to walk the plank?
Made to work with others? Everyone has dealt with these real experiences
at one time or another.
High Element Course
The air is a little thinner up here! Some high elements continue the
team-building and problem-solving progression by using more than one rope
system so that multiple participants must work together to accomplish
their goals. Other elements simply provide an individual peak experience.
CSUMB engages the group as a team by involving participants as belayers,
spotters, and, of course, the ever-helpful encouragement team.
