A Monadnock, in geological terms, is an isolated mountain. The term is derived from the native American name for this mountain. Mount Monadnock, the worn-down stub of an ancient peak, is a prominent and popular mountain in southwest New Hampshire - hiked by thousands of visitors each year for the outstanding vistas available at the treeless summit. Visitor amenities around the mountain include B&B's, campgrounds, golf courses, and recreation venues. The main photo is taken from near the peak of Pratt Mountain, looking northwest. There are a dozen locations in the surrounding area to take in outstanding views of this peak. Listed parking coordinates are at Monadnock State Park, with camping sites and a popular hiking trailhead.
