Built in 1930 by Carson Rose and operated until 1956, the historic Rose Service Station located just off Hwy 25E in Tazewell was restored by the town of Tazewell in 2001 back to authentic condition, representing a Gulf "filling station" from days long past.
The station has authentic old-style gasoline pumps and brings back memories of a simpler age when Highway 25E winded in front of the station instead of behind it today. Back in those days, US Highway 25E was referred to as the "Dixie Highway" and was a major north-south federal highway through the area.

Built in 1930 by Carson Rose, the local Gulf distributor at that time on what was then US 25E, a major North South highway of the Eastern United States. 25E started as the Dixie Highway, one of the first federal highway systems. Over the twenty-six years of operation, this station had four different operators, with the following approximate dates of operation (1) Grover Essary 1930-1936 (2) Thurman Essary 1937-1938 (3) Wade Fugate 1939-1942 (4) Ross Runions 1943-1956. The station was closed in 1956, when US25E was relocated to the rear of the building and was rented as living quarters until 1968. From 1968 until 2001 the building was not maintained and suffered major deterioration with the center of the roof and ceiling falling down. In January of 2001 the Town of Tazewell became the owners of the property and immediately began the effort to save and repair the building. Over seven tons of debris was removed from the premises before the repairs could be made. The Board of Mayor and Alderman of Tazewell who took part and authorized the repairs are: Mayor Mark A. Carson Rose Dies Sunday
W. Carson Rose, 35, well-known Claiborne county man, political leader, and member of the prominent Rose family in the county, died last night about seven o'clock, at his home in Tazewell, after an illness of sixteen weeks. Mr. Rose had undergone an operation for appendicitis over three months ago, and complications resulted which finally resulted in his death.
Surviving are his widow, postmistress of Tazewell, one daughter, Miss Norma Jean Rose; his mother, Mrs. Ida Rose, and one brother, Everett Rose, all of Tazewell.

Rose Funeral is Held Today
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 p.m. for Carson Rose, prominent Tazewell business man and political leader, who died Sunday night at 11 o'clocl. The services were held at the residence with burial in the Irish cemetery.
Mr. Rose, who was 36, was distributor in this section for the Gulf Refining Co. He was a member of the Claiborne county school board and the county election commission.
When he was in St. Mary's hospital in Knoxville a few days agao Gov. Hill McAlister visited him there. Mr. Rose was in the hospital from February 17, when he had an operation, unto May 28.
Surviving are a widow; daughter Norma Jean; mother, Mrs. Ida Rose, and brother, Everett Rose, all of Tazewell.
