Gyeongju was the ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom with flourished from the frist century B.C. for nearly a thousand years, unifying the Korean Peninsula around the 5th century. Today it is a tourist destination with tombs of many kings throughout the city, organized as a National Park. On the outer evnirons is Pulguksa, a Buddhist temple that is Korea Historic Site #1.
