This very simple, but very moving, memorial is located on the east side of the Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery. A walkway leads to a large concrete area.
In the front, a large mortar has been placed. The base has the GAR star and the VFW cross. No other writing is visible.
In the middle, Old Glory flies proudly on a lighted flagpole.
At the rear, a stone wall holds up a marble slab. On the slab is the American flag with the Seals of the US, the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. The Wording states:
For God and Country
Dedicated to those War Veterans that never returned
Type of Memorial: Non-Specific Memorial
In Honor Of: War Veterans that never returned
Marker Text: For God and Country
Dedicated to those War Veterans that never returned
Date of dedication: none given
Who Put it Here?: VFW Post 852
Description of Memorial: This is on the east side of the Lawrence Memorial Cemetery. This cemetery is more park-like and quiet than the larger Oak Hill Cemetery across the Street. This veteran's memorial is one of the more unique I have found as I haven't seen one with a mortar before.
Wars mentioned (Multi-war only): Not listed
