Less than 300 yards from here, on April 5, 1942, ten Army Air Corps aviators perished in service to their country.

They crashed their B-17E "Flying Fortress," Serial 41-2443, returning from a routing combat patrol mission around Hawaii searching for enemy forces. They crashed in foul weather and darkness on a bleak Easter Sunday evening that claimed two patrolling combat crews within 10 miles of each other.
This plaque placed by the Hawaii Aviation Preservation Society on the 65th Anniversary of the crash.
