This tower is located near Marks Municipal Airport, hence the checkerboard paint job and beacon on top.
Apparently, candy making uses a lot of water. Russell Stover came up with an ingenious plan to treat waste water back in the late 1980's since the plant was overloading the local sewage treatment plant with organic waste.
The Russell Stover Candy Factory in Clarksville closed in 2001, taking with it 690 local jobs.
All that remains now is the shuttered plant and the water tower with its peeling paint. Too bad this one isn't spruced up. With the fancy red and white checkerboard paint job, this water tower must have looked pretty spiffy back in the day. Right now, it looks like a sore thumb.
