The VIA Rail passenger train comes through here six times a week, on the way to Churchill or on the way back to Thompson. It stops here for fuel and a crew change.

~ paraphrased from (visit link) ~
The railroad first came to the Gillam area in 1912-13 when the track was being laid to Churchill. It wasn't fully completed until 1929. About 1966, construction of hydroelectric generating stations began (first Kettle, then Longspruce and Limestone). The population exploded and Gillam became a modernized "suburban" town complete with a (new?) train station.
