Halibut Point Reservation is one of many properties owned by The Trustees of Reservations. The property is best described by the web site. Be sure to pick up a trail map, either at the parking area, or from the web site.

Cooperatively managed by The Trustees of Reservations (TTOR), and the Massachusetts DCR (Department of Conservation and Recreation) Halibut Point Reservation and the adjoining Halibut Point State Park, in concert with the Town of Rockport's Sea Rocks, provides nearly a mile of spectacular ocean frontage. On a clear day, the coast is visible to Mount Agamenticus in southern Maine, about 40 miles away. Also visible are the Isles of Shoals, off the coast of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Cape Ann was host to an active granite quarrying industry in the past. This is well documented in the adjoining State Park. However, it appears that at this location, it started as surface quarrying, taking pieces of the slabs as they sloped down to the sea. There is considerable evidence of this on the Reservation property.

Please note that the Halibut Point Reservation and Sea Rocks are accessed from within the State Park, and you must enter the park first. There is no entrance fee, but you must pay a $2.00 daily parking fee, unless you are a member of TTOR, when it is free. Be sure to pick up a trail map, either on the web site, or at the Visitors Center. The Reservation is open sunrise to sunset, but the Park's hours are more restrictive. Check their web site.
