HMAS Ovens is an Oberon Class submarine which saw service with the Royal Australian Navy. It is complete (except batteries) and is out of the water on a slipway next to the Western Australian Maritime Museum.

With a strong history as a submarine base, it is fitting that a submarine from the Royal Australian Navy was gifted to the WA Maritime Museum.

A measure of physical fitness is necessary to ascend and descend ladders and move through the bulkheads. Visitors with any fear of confined spaces should avoid the tour, but if that fear was not known beforehand, a guide can assist in a quick departure.
Many more photos were taken by the writer than what has been placed in the gallery. It was a most interesting visit.
Our guide on the day had served on submarines, but not in conflict. So when I asked the either intriguing or dumb question "How scary would it be here during battle?" our guide couldn't say either! Only those who have been into battle would know the feelings of such....perhaps pointless for anyone else to ask....
