With a strong history as a submarine base, it is fitting that a submarine from the Royal Australian Navy was gifted to the WA Maritime Museum.

Detail on the HMAS Ovens including tour times (although listed below, the tour times can vary and also be cancelled in poor weather) and pricing can be obtained at the Museum's website (visit link)

A measure of physical fitness is necessary to ascend and descend ladders and move through the bulkheads. Visitors with any fear of confined spaces should avoid the tour, but if that fear was not known beforehand, a guide can assist in a quick departure.

Many more photos were taken by the writer than what has been placed in the gallery. It was a most interesting visit.

Our guide on the day had served on submarines, but not in conflict. So when I asked the either intriguing or dumb question "How scary would it be here during battle?" our guide couldn't say either! Only those who have been into battle would know the feelings of such....perhaps pointless for anyone else to ask....
