Louisville's Old County Jail building stands across the park from the old Jefferson County Courthouse (now Metro Hall). Reportedly convicted criminals were brought into the jail from the courthouse in a tunnel that passed underneath the park and streets.

Like many old prisons, it is believed to be haunted by the ghosts of inmates who died there.

The prison was remodeled in 1983 and turned into offices for government workers. Currently housed in the old jail are offices of the Commonwealth Attorney, the Criminal Justice Commission, and the city Planning Commission.
