Pierce trig 1363m
The trig is positioned on Pierce Hill which is part of the Tidbinbilla range. Spectacular views of Canberra including Black mountain and Lake Burley Griffin in the distance and just below is Pierces creek pine forest and the Tidbinbilla area. The Large parabolic antennas at The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex are also an odd sight in the rural valley.
Access can be gained by walking the Camel Back fire trail from the Tidbinbilla reserve. 16km return. A short cut up The Spur No. 3 fire trail from the Pieces creek fire trail is a very steep alternative. The last 200 meters do require a bush bash and a bit of slog up the hill.
Also of note is the VHF analogue radio repeter station used by the ACT RFS. From information I gained on their web page this station is channel 8. There was a similar repeater station inbetween camels hump and Johns peak. This was destroyed in the 2003 fires.
When back in Canberra cast your views back to the Tidbinbilla range. Pierce trig is just above a cliff face to the right of Camel hump.
Happy Trig hunting!
