Here in the early 1930s, Harland Sanders of KFC fame ran a gas station to serve motorists on the Dixie Hwy. Eventually he moved across the street, building a larger station and restaurant. He also built a motor court, as seen in a model here.

Inside this active KFC restaurant is a small museum for Col. Sanders and his KFC empire, which he started here. It also includes various displays related to the early years. Inside the museum is an HO scale model of the complex showing the original buildings, including the first gas station. This was modeled from period photographs. The original station is almost completely gone, except for some foundations.
In the late 1950s the government announced the construction of I-75 nearby. Realizing this would slow his traffic, he sold off the complex and began traveling around the country selling his famous recipe to others.
