The church is one of the last medieval, English style designs and contains an unusual and magnificent 1615 monument to the Chernocke family.
This door is believed to be the original and has Richard Chernocke's initials 'RC' studded in the nails on the front. Also there is an old metal ring which has an interesting history. This ring is a remnant of the times when sanctuary could be claimed. Debtor fugitives were able to hold onto the ring so they could not be arrested. This act was abolished in 1623 and the Hulcote ring is thought to be the last in Bedfordshire which survives today.
Pevsner dates the church to 1590 and two bells bear the date 1593. St Nicholas' church is a rare, surviving treasure.
