Marker Name: Toward the twentieth century: Baqndon’s opportunities grow
Marker Text: As it grew, Bandon’s economy became more dependent on river-based industries.
As shipping traffic grew, more ships had trouble crossing the treacherous sand bar at the river mouth. An enormous rock monolith of blue schist was blasted apart to make a jetty that made crossing easier.
Shipping, shipbuilding, and fishing became major industries in Bandon. Other industries like lumber and farming benefited from the access to distant markets that the river provided.

1890 - The town’s population is 219.
