M109 2 1/2-ton Shop Van

The M109 Shop Van is part of the M35 series of trucks. These vehicles have a large van. They are largely used in electronic repair shops, and communications shops.

The M35 2 1/2-Ton Truck or "deuce and a half" is a standard fixture within the Army. Initially developed in 1949, Many models of the M-35 were developed including:

Interesting point of the M35 series of trucks is they have not truly seen a direct replacement for the vehicle. From 1994 to 1999, the M35 series were upgraded in an "Extended Service Program." New engines, automatic transmitions, power asisted stearing and many more improvements extended the life of these vehicles. Even today, you can see these vehicles in convoys on the road.

A-level suffix (A1, A2, or A3) designations refer to the evolution of the vehicle.

  • M35 - 127 HP Reo-Continental Gasoline Engine with 4 speed Manual Transmission
  • M35A1 - 130 HP Multifuel Engine with a 5 speed Manual Transmission.
  • M35A2 - 140 HP Multifuel Engine (many with a turbo booster) with a 5 speed Manual Transmission.
  • M35A3 - As mentioned above, this is the ESL program. 225 HP Catapillar Engine, 5 speed Transmission with overdrive
