RC0452 - OSHD S3, Oregon - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This benchmark is located near the 45th Parallel sign on U.S. Hwy. 97 about 3 miles west of Shaniko, Oregon. The cap is set in a concrete post about 90 feet SE of highway centerline at a jog in the right of way fence. The cap was set by the Oregon State Highway Department in 1930 and was marked S3, elevation 3456 feet.

REACHED FROM THE POST OFFICE AT SHANIKO, GO SOUTHWEST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 197 FOR 2.6 MILES, 91 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY AND 2 FEET HIGHER, 1 FOOT WEST OF A FENCE LINE, 23 FEET SOUTH OF THE RIGHT OF WAY FENCE ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, ABOUT 130 FEET WEST SOUTHWEST OF A HIGHWAY SIGN 45TH PARALLEL HALF WAY BETWEEN THE EQUATOR AND NORTH POLE, AND 1 FOOT SOUTH OF A METAL WITNESS POST.
