Dr. Clark was the first president of the Southern University in Baton Rouge. Born in Bienville Parish, LA in 1871, Dr. Clark studied at Coleman, Bishop and Leland Colleges. Before becoming president of Southern, Dr. Clark presided over Baton Rouge College and the Louisiana Colored Teachers Association. He retired in 1938. He died in 1944 and he, his wife and son are buried on campus in 3 above ground tombs. Some references came from
