Omemee, Ontario
Omemee is a community within the city of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada, formerly known as Victoria County. Omemee is one of the major communities in the Kawartha Lakes, as the proclaimed "city" is vastly rural and has but one major population centre. Omemee was the early childhood home of musician Neil Young and his father, sports writer, Scott Young and the subject of his famous song, Helpless.
The community has a population of 1,319 as of the 2001 Census. It is located between the City of Peterborough and the Town of Lindsay. Lindsay is the largest population centre in the city of Kawartha Lakes, and serves as the administrative centre as it did with Victoria County.
Omemee was also the childhood home of Flora McRae Eaton, Sir John Craig Eaton's wife, the president and heir of the Eaton department store in Canada.
Omemee has two Public Schools, both named after people who lived in the town and are now well now. Lady Eaton Elementry, which goes from Kindergarten to Grade 4. Scott Young goes from Grade 5 to Grade 8, and was named after Scott Young, who is an author of many books, and father of the musician Neil Young
