The Arroyo Pescadero and Arroyo San Miguel Trails are a project of the Puente Hills Landfill Native Habitat Preservation Authority. Arroyo Pescadero serves as a wildlife corridor that connects lands that reach from the Whittier Narrows Recreation area to the Cleveland National Forest in Orange County.
The trailhead is located at 7531 South Colima Road in Whittier.
Access is on the west side of Colima Road across from Murphy Ranch Little League Fields. A free parking lot is available at the trailhead. There is a map at the trailhead, which can be downloaded
here.
The Arroyo Pescadero trail is a two mile loop, with an optional Deer Loop that adds about a mile to the hike. The trail is mostly asphalt with some areas of dirt. Elevation gain is 180 feet. No bikes are allowed on this trail.
The Arroyo San Miguel trail is a dirt trail about 1.8 miles long with an elevation gain of 360 feet. (3.6 miles round trip)
Wildlife in the area includes coyote, bobcat, skunk, mule deer, squirrel, raccoon, rabbit, various birds, small rodents, lizards and snakes. Some areas have recently been replanted with native plants.
There are geocaches along both trails.
