"The Dr. Uriel Wright office building is eligible under Criterion C (Architecture) because it embodies the distinctive characteristics of the vernacular Federal style as manifested in the central Missouri "Boonslick" region during the first half of the 19th century. Drawing its name from one of its later tenants (Dr. U. Wright, 1882-1914), the building is significant in the area of architecture; it is, by all best estimates, the oldest building on the square in Fayette. Built between 1828-1832 the building was one of the first permanent architectural fixtures in the region and retains its physical character from its period of significance. The building exemplifies the distinctive character of early vernacular domestic Southern architecture while conveying the persistence of tradition and cultural conservatism associated with mid-Missouri's ante-bellum society." - National Register Nomination Form
The small commercial building was originally built to serve as a hatters shop and later was the doctors office. It was in continous commercial use until 1986 when it was donated to the Fayette Area Heritage Society to use for their offices.
