Baseball Hall of Famer Gordon "Mickey" Cochrane, considered by some to be one of the best catchers in baseball history, was born in Bridgewater in 1903. A bronze plaque bearing his likeness can be found on the Bridgewater Common.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
Gordon 'Mickey' Cochrane Memorial
Given in memory of "Mickey" Cochrane, a Bridgewater native and member of Baseball's Hall of Fame.
In 1952 "Mickey" was voted the greatest catcher of all time by the Baseball Writers of America. May his leadership and fierce competitive spirit be an inspiration to the youth of Bridgewater.
