This static artillery display is of a 3 inch Mark 33 deck gun. It was originally mounted on the USS Guam for aircraft defense. It has the ability to fire 50 rounds a minute. The USS Guam served in the Carribean and in 1966 was used to recovery astronauts from the Gemini II space mission.
The artillery display is open to the public 24 hours everyday. It is located in front of the Arizona Wing - Commemorative Air Force Aircraft Museum. The museum is located on the Northeast corner of Greenfield and McKellips Roads in Mesa, AZ.
