This cannon was cast by the Government in 1863. It was placed in Fort Monroe, Va, as a coast defense gun. Shortly before the Civil War, it was moved to Fort Moultrie, S.C., by Secretary of War Floyd, after the capture of Fort Moultrie by the Union Forces. It was moved to Portsmouth Navy Yard, converted from a smooth bore to an eight inch rifle and taken back to Fort Monroe, Va. It was put out of Commission in 1884.
